Use
The Washberry shells naturally contain a detergent called saponin.  Just like soap, water releases the saponin which then attaches to fatty substances in your wash so that they are easily removed and washed away.  Warmer water will release the saponin faster and give a better wash.

Wash Bags

!

We recommend putting 3 or 4 nuts into a wash bag per wash.  (Less for smaller machines or hot washes, and more for larger machines or cold washes.)  You can also use a old sock tied at the top, or a piece of muslin or an old hankie to hold the Washberries.  If they get loose in your wash, make sure that you check your machines filter after washing to prevent blockages.

Solution

!
Boil 8-10 soap nuts in 4 cups of water for 30 minutes.  Allow to cool and remove nut pieces.  You can use 1/2 cup per load of washing, for dishes, cleaning floors etc.  Adjust the concentration to suit.
